Mo Abudu Hints On How She Turned Forbes Africa's Most Successful Woman Of The Year, 2014

Recently, the Executive Chairman and CEO of Ebony Life TV, Africa’s first Global Black Entertainment and Lifestyle network, Mo Abudu was announced by Forbes as Africa’s Most Successful Woman of The Year.

Mo, who has been described by international news outlets as ‘Africa’s Africa’, is keen in her resolve to rewrite Africa’s story.

Speaking on her entrepreneurial journey and lessons she has learned along the way, Mo said “This kind of afro-pessimism simply fueled a burning, deep-seated desire in my subconscious to one day help to rewrite the African story; to get people to talk about the issues that affect our society and to tell the African narrative in a contemporary and interesting way; to change the perception the world had of us; to let the world know that in spite of our challenges as a developing continent, Africans are not a bunch of savages but mostly a breed of gifted and remarkable people.”

Davido displayed a picture of him trying to go sky diving while explaining that he actually wants to do it but scared at the same time.

Real Reason Tonto Dikeh Is In Tears

Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, has been driven in tears after a young orphan was discovered at an orphanage home in Ajah called ‘Arrow of God Orphange Home’.

Tonto, who is currently on tour with her foundation team to some orphanage homes, was surprised when one of the children named Deborah Emmanuel, presented a portrait to her. The girl is said to be 16 years old.

Tonto, through her foundation, offered educational scholarships to three orphans to university level.

How Competition Chased Me Out Of Lagos - Hilda Dokubo Reveals

Veteran Nollywood actress, Hilda Dokubo, in a recent interview, revealed that the fierce competition in the entertainment industry, especially in Lagos, forced her to relocate to Rivers State, where she hails from.

According to the iconic actor, who used to be very popular many years ago in the movie industry before delving into politics, “You go to where they need you most. In Lagos, there are a lot of us who can do a lot.
Plus you know that there’s this general saying that the West received education before the South, which may or may not be true.

“But charity begins at home and whatever you plant at home, be prepared to reap. That’s not to say Lagos is completely off my radar. No! Because some of the kids that I train return to Lagos and some of them actually come in from Lagos to get trained and return.

“So, in a way, you influence your environment and your community, your state, your nation and the whole objective of this is to be able to build a pool of people that you can say Nigerians can depend on because they will come out dependable.”

She also lamented on what being a public figure has deprived her of.

“Acting has stolen my privacy. What it has not given to me is – it’s not given me the ability to be as private as I want to be. I’m a very private person, but you can’t be private when you are a celebrity and you are in the face of people all the time.

“People consider you a role model, people are busy setting standards for you, and people are busy assuming they know what you want and all of that. So, it steals your privacy from you,” she said.

Competition Never Chased Me Out Of Music - Baba Fryo speaks

In the late 90s, the Nigerian music industry was gradually gaining its roots among the Nigerian citizens, though the youths at that time were still more engrossed with foreign music.

At most parties and radio stations, Nigerian songs were getting about 30 to 40 per cent airplay until in the 2000s and mid 2000s when foreign music was virtually faced out till today.

Back then, for those who were lovers of the Nigerian music, artistes like Junior and Pretty, Remedies, Plantashun Boiz, Daddy Fresh, Daddy Showkey, Baba Fryo, Nico Gravity, Lagbaja and several others changed the face of the industry many now enjoy today.

But it is sad to note that of all the artistes who worked tirelessly to make the industry what it is today, only a handful of them are still relevant in the industry and are calling the shots.

Most of the artistes that ruled the industry more than a decade ago have gone underground and most people have attributed this to the tough competition in the industry now.

One person in the old generation of artistes that does not believe that competition chased him out of the music industry is Baba Fryo, who was famous for his ‘Denge Pose’ smash hit single.

In a nrecent interview, the Ajegunle-based musician disagreed with the insinuation that the young artistes forced him out of the industry.

“No, never, I don’t even think of other people when it comes to music, I think about myself alone because if you buy a big car today, it will not move me,” he told us.

Explaining the reason behind that, he said, “Thinking about other people’s successes might give me a bad idea. So, I think about myself alone.”

When asked why he has remained underground for a long time, Baba Fryo said, “There is nothing, everything is just cool. I am just trying to stay cool. It is just natural that I stay cool for some time, but I am coming out in 2015 with something different.”

He boasted that it would be easy for him to make a comeback when he is ready to do so because he will do “the kind of music people will love, not the kind of music other people play.”

Tragedy Hits Dayo D1 As Teenager Dies In His Hotel

In the wee hours of yesterday, January 6, an unidentified teenager was confirmed dead in the swimming pool of DC Bar & Suites located in Owode-Ajegunle in Ikorodu area Lagos, which is owned by showbiz cum media mogul, Dayo ‘D1' Adeneye.

It was gathered that the corpse of the teenager was taken away in a grey coloured SUV around 8am in the presence of policemen from Owode-Ajegunle post of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).

This sad incidence is coming barely a year after the DC Bar & Suites began operations at 19-23 Oke-Owo street, Irawo, off Ikorodu Road, Lagos.

According to an eye-witness, the death of the boy generated a lot of attention in the neighbourhood and attracted passers-by as well as on-lookers.

A source revealed that the dead teenager was a resident who returned recently from Ilorin, Kwara State.
The report of the tragedy is a sad turn of events for the former TV presenter turned politician who is still celebrating his appointment by Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun as part of the media and publicity committee for the Governor’s second term campaign.

Police Force Public Relations Officer, ASP Keneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident adding that investigations are still ongoing. “The incident happened and as I speak, statements were obtained from eye witnesses and the hotel manager while investigations are going on.”

However, Dayo Adeneye was yet to respond to calls and SMS sent to him as at press time.

His publicist, Sunday Adebayo, was also contacted but he denied knowledge of any of such incident and stressed that the hotel was yet to be completed at his last visit about a week ago.
