Movie On The Deportation of Igbos From Lagos May Hit Shelves Soon
It is very common among Nigerian filmmakers to shoot movies on popular occurrences, slangs or songs.
Most of the time, the storylines of these films are watery and make movie buffs hiss in disgust, which make them regret ever spending their hard-earned money on such flicks.
One cannot easily forget the release of a movie on Aluu 4 when it was still amassing public condemnation. Also, a movie was released some years ago titled ‘Gongo Aso’, named after a then popular song by 9ice.
A year ago, some people from the Igbo extraction were allegedly deported from Lagos State to Onitsha in Anambra State in the wee hours of the day. This action generated widespread criticisms and the Lagos State government was slammed for it.
The issue almost strained the relationship between the Yorubas and Igbos in Nigeria, but the issue was quickly settled and the state governor, Babatunde Fashola, later apologised over the matter. But those allegedly deported sued the Lagos State government, seeking compensation.
Recently, a group in Nollywood called Ohaneze Ndigbo Nollywood (ONN) is planning to shoot a movie on the issue. According to information gotten the new flick has a working title ‘Midnite In Lagos’ and it is expected to feature some prominent names in the industry.
Whether the new movie will turn out like other is what we cannot confirm, but it is expected that the group would research well in order to produce an award-winning film.
