How I Endured Pressure After Converting To Christianity - Entertainer, Jumia Shaba Narrates
TV personality, motivational speaker and model, Jumai Shaba is simple, lovable and graciously pretty. Recently she abandoned Islam and embraced a new faith.
She explains why she suddenly became a Christian after being born into a Muslim family and her idea of an ideal marriage.
“It is something I have been thinking of for a long time. I came from a family of Muslims; my father and siblings are Muslims while my mother is a Christian. To come from a predominantly Muslim background and then become a Christian has to be your calling especially if you are into entertainment.
“It was my calling. I had to not just be a Christian, but to also live as a Christian. I am very compelled to spread the gospel and that is what I do on my Sunday Vlog series.
“As a Muslim, I was happy but I always yearned for a deeper connection with my creator. One day, I accompanied a friend of mine to a Catholic church and I loved the manner in which they communicated with God.
“I knew at that moment that I would never turn back. I turned down the chance to run a huge reality show with my sisters in order for me to attend Discipleship School. I got baptised shortly after and gave my life completely to Christ," she narrated.
On how Jumia handled reactions from her family, fans and friends, she disclosed that she was never moved and withstood the heat and conquered them all with perseverance.
Hear her: "As a Muslim, I was very pro-Islam and now as a Christian I am very passionate about my faith. I think my siblings were very shocked at my conversion. They see my lifestyle and have also come to realise that it is not just a phase that I am passing through. The bulk of the criticism I faced was from my Muslim fans and followers especially, on Instagram. They challenged the reason for my conversion."
The petite damsel also describes her idea of an ideal marriage.
"I can’t be a born-again Christian and not believe in marriage because it helps. I like the whole idea of a man and a woman coming together to help each other. My idea of an ideal marriage is one where respect and love thrive," she said.
Lastly, she tackled the issue of fake lives trending in the entertainment industry as a whole.
"Even if you are the most real person, people will still speak ill of you. However, if you are consistent with being yourself, after a while, you can’t fake anything again. I am true to myself, I don’t put on any airs and I am proud of all that I have achieved for myself by sheer hard work and resilience," she assured.
Marriage Has Made Me A Better Person - Charles Inojie
Nollywood star, Charles Inojie has indeed pitched a tent for himself in the make-believe world, thus needs no further introduction.
The Edo-State born actor who doubles as a director walked down the aisle few years ago with his beautiful wife, confessed that since he took that huge step into marriage his life hasn't remained the same.
"Being married has added all round value to my life. My wife is my number one critic and she makes it a point of duty to see all my movies as soon as they are released. No doubt I'm a better person now than I ever was."
The comic actor has also finalised plans to produce his first movies after years of directing and acting. "Yes, I am going to try my hands on producing from early next year. So your information is very correct, but we are keeping the details very close to our hearts just yet. Discussions have reached top gear with potential sponsors and I do not want to preempt anything at the moment. Let me assure my fans however, that they are in for a great experience.
Everyone knows me hitherto as the writer/movie director, but in the last four years or so, I embarked on a deliberate journey to expose the actor side of me to my teeming fans. Even though I had made minor appearances in some movies in the past, not many people knew that I was actually a lead role material. So I got to that point in my career when I could no longer continue to suppress my acting talents. I had to take the bull by the horn by going all out in front of the camera as a full-fledged actor, and believe me, the experience has been awesome.”
Charles also nodded to the fact that he has indeed paid his dues in Nollywood. “Surely, I have paid my dues in every respect. Close followers of my rise from those humble beginnings to where God has placed us today would readily concede that indeed I have paid my dues. From when I left the university as a graduate of Theatre Arts till date, I have literally navigated the lowest valleys of Nollywood right to its mountain tops.
You would recall that I started out as a writer/Artistic Director, but over the years I have since earned full credits in well over 70 titles as director while appearing in leading role capacities in over 40 very successful movies.”

APGA is the party I chose because it is more like a movement than an ordinary political party in the South East. It is the party in power in Anambra State. I agree with its ideology of “togetherness for progress”. It has huge grassroots follower-ship. That’s why I joined the party” he told squealed.
However, the seat which he’s vying for is occupied by a fellow entertainer, Tony One-Week, who is also seeking re-election.

I have toured the 10 towns with 12 wards that make up Idemili North Constituency. All I kept getting was complaints of non performance from the masses against the incumbent! We can’t let that go on for another four years” he explained

At 66, Tunde Kelani produces 18th movie
On Friday, November 7, 2014, ace cinematographer, Tunde Kelani premiered his latest movie in Lagos.
Held at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos, the star-studded movie, which features top Nollywood acts including Kunle Afolayan, Kemi Lala-Akindoju, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett and Seun Akindele as lead characters, drew a large crowd of film stars, dignitaries and guests to the Onikan, Lagos Island venue of the premiere event.
Titled Dazzling Mirage the movie premiered in spectacular fashion, in the end delivering a large dose of the creative genius for which Kelani has become known over the years.
Based on a love story that explores an emotional subject tilted towards people living with Sickle Cell Anaemia, the movie further adds to the respected filmmaker’s acclaim as one who likes to address topical social issues in his works.
Written by Ade Solanke, Dazzling Mirage is an adaptation of Yinka Egbokhare’s novel of the same title and traces the life of someone living with sickle cell who fights through betrayal and denial to focus on helping the public understand what sickle cell really means and getting the society to care more for people affected by the medical condition brought upon them through no fault of theirs.
Also featuring notable movie figures like Bimbo Manuel, Carol King, Yomi Fash-Lanso and others, the movie is the conscious filmmaker’s 18th movie in a career spanning several years of productive cinematic activities.
With Dazzling Mirage as a film boasting socially relevant themes in ample proportions, focusing on the much-talked about yet mostly misconstrued sickle cell anaemia subject, it is a measure of 66-year old Tunde Kelani’s inclination as a celebrated filmmaker who remains committed to the arts as a weapon of social justice.
Unlike most people in his age range, Kelani remains busy, but not with systems in the workplace, nor with boardroom politics and definitely not with political strategy. He is busy as a creative being who stays restless as long as ideas keep coming to his head.
Born on February 26, 1948, the cultural advocate and philosophical movie man popularly known as TK, is a veritable father figure for many on the Nollywood lane including Kunle Afolayan who continues to break the glass ceilings in the Nigerian filmmaking environment.
Beyond being the one who calls the shots as producer and director, the Ogun State-born man of amiable disposition regards himself as a storyteller, director, cinematographer and literary enthusiast.
In a career spanning more than four decades already, TK specialises in producing movies that promote Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and have a root in documentation, archiving, education, entertainment and promotion of the culture. Born in Lagos, Tunde was sent to live with his grandparents at Abeokuta from the age of 5, attending the Oke-Ona Primary School in Ikija, Abeokuta and the Abeokuta Grammar School in the process.
Kelani’s grandfather was a chief – the Balogun of Ijaiye Kukudi and the young boy witnessed from close quarters aspects of Yoruba ways of life with the religion, literature, philosophy and Yoruba worldview taking roots in his young mind.
Also introduced to Yoruba literature early, the young Tunde became obsessed with the arts having seen how thrilling an impact books and theatrical performances of the Palmwine Drinkard, Oba Koso, Kurunmi, the Ogunde plays and more had on him. In a recent interview with National Mirror, Kelani said:
‘When I was very young, I took to literature, I read everything I came in contact with. My show of fantasy came from books and stories. So, I was dreaming; I was lost in the world of books and stories… D.O Fagunwa was king in the art of telling stories.’
Another aspect of creativity that would go on to shape his life was his involvement in photography from primary school. So taken in with photography was Kelani that he became an apprentice photographer after his secondary school education before later undergoing training at the then Western Nigeria Television (WNTV) before he attended the London Film School.
On that, he said in the same interview: ‘You know that D.O Fagunwa writes with precision and the greatest sense of imagination. So, he fuelled my fantasies a lot. I discovered photography quite early too in Abeokuta then. I decided that I wanted to be a photographer before I went into motion picture production.’
After his training, he kicked off his career in 1970 as a BBC TV and Reuters correspondent, travelling around Africa to cover developing stories armed with the camera as his weapon.
Once through with his London Film School training, however, Kelani was fired up and upon coming back to Nigeria, he co-produced his first film with Adebayo Faleti called Idaamu Paadi Minkailu (The Dilemna of Rev. Father Michael). tunde kelani Unknown to many, Tunde Kelani has also worked on most feature films produced in Nigeria far back as a cinematographer including 16mm feature classics like Anikura, Ogun Ajaye, Iya Ni Wura, Taxi Driver, Iwa and Fopomoyo.
In 1990, Kelani was an assistant director on the set of a major American drama, Mister Johnson starring Pierce Brosnan, Maynard Eziashi and based on Joyce Cary’s 1939 book.
That readers would surely go on to become leaders has played out well in the career of Tunde Kelani as the renowned producer developed a keen interest in reading at a very young age, starting with the 5 classic works of renowned literary giant, D.O Fagunwa. With some of his favourite writers being Kola Akinlade, Amos Tutuola, Cyprian Ekwensi, Akinwunmi Ishola, Adebayo Faleti, Wale Ogunyemi and Wole Soyinka, some of Kelani’s best films are literary adaptations, including Koseegbe, Oleku, Thunderbold (Magun), The White Handkerchief, The Narrow Path, Maami and the recent Dazzling Mirage.
In 1991, Tunde Kelani started his own production company, Mainframe Films and Television Productions also popularly known as Opomulero.
Incorporated in 1992, the company was set up ‘to promote our rich cultural heritage and moral values both within the country and the outside world at large, to improve the standards of film production in Nigeria and to give technical support to other production houses both within and outside Nigeria,’ according to the company’s best.
22 years down the line, not many would argue that TK has not kept the promise in all spheres.
First off the prolific movie production kitchen of Kelani is the classic, Ti Oluwa Nile in 1993. The two other sequels of the movie followed that same year while another trend-setting movie, Ayo Ni Mofe as well as its sequel, Ayo Ni Mofe 2, were released in 1994. Kelani released Koseegbe, which has continued to reverberate several years after, in 1995 and followed up with O Le Ku in 1997, Saworoide in 1999 and White Handkerchief in 2000.
Other not less impressive films that the great man has made available to fans include Thunderbolt: Magun (2001), Agogo Eewo (2002), The Campus Queen (2004), Abeni (2006), The Narrow Path (2006), Life in Slow Motion (2008), Arugba (2010), Maami (2011) and Dazzling Mirage (2014).

Nollywood actress, Stephanie Okereke-Linus has reacted to the recent allegation of rape levelled against her brother, Daniel Okereke, by a 300-Level student of the University of Lagos.

The actress, who has spent the bulk of her career advocating and fighting that women around the world be able to live free of violence, sexual harassment or any form of abuse, said: ‘It is indeed heart breaking for me to receive and deal with news alleging a family member of mine (my brother) is an alleged perpetrator of sexual violence against a woman. I am devastated.’
‘This case is now in Nigeria’s criminal justice system as the accused awaits arraignment. I have also encouraged and assured the alleged victim of my stance against rape and applaud her for her bravery to upset the culture of silence, in Nigeria; even as I accord deference and patiently wait for the criminal justice system to determine the guilt or innocence of my brother.’
She urged the Nigerian media to please report the case ethically and objectively instead of picking on her because she’s famous and related to the accused. ‘Some members of the press and blogs have turned me into the accuser; using my name for sensational headlines and putting my images, exclusively, in their stories. This is a form of victimisation of me as a woman; it’s unethical and extremely hurtful. I am not the alleged accused. I therefore please ask all bloggers and the media who have placed my pictures and name to this story to refrain from further using me to sensationalise this story,’ she concluded.

My Marriage Has Not Been All Rosy - Lara George
Popular gospel artiste, Lara George has disclosed that her 10-year sojourn in the school of marriage has not been too rosy. However, she expressed gratitude to God for making things good for her.
Lara, in an interview with Sun newspaper, disclosed that she cannot boast of enjoying her marriage for the past 10 years which has been faced with its own challenges.
“Of course not, it has not been blissful all the way (in my marriage), I will be lying true my teeth if I say that. No marriage is blissful 100 per cent of the time. I think the joy is being able to overcome the challenges that come, because I will be lying if I say there have been no challenges these last 10 years.
“Yes, my husband and I have had our own fair share of challenges but by God’s grace, we have surmounted each and every one, and my prayer is that we will continue in Christ every day till death do us part,” she said.
It would be recalled that on September 4, 2014, the singer celebrated her 10 years of marital bliss with an album, ‘Love Wantintin.’ She advised couples to try and understand each other in other to make their homes work.
According to her, “You know patience could be very challenging because it is the ability to understand and overlook the flaws of your partner. And you know, there are days that you just want to explode! But remember, the anger of a man is not worth the righteousness of God.
“So when you allow anger to becloud your judgment, you create a lot of problems. My husband and I had to learn to take every negative emotion aside and dump them in the backburner and make the Spirit of God our watchword so that our home will be where the Holy Spirit abides.

Nollywood Actress, Sotayo Sobola Preaches Sex Before Marriage
In Africa, having sex before marriage is kicked against just as the Bible totally kicks against such, describing it as fornication and as a sin God dislikes.
There have been different views on this issue with some people saying there is nothing wrong in going down with a lover before marriage.
One person in support of testing the sexual ability of one’s partner is Nollywood actress, Sotayo Sobola.
In an interview with Vanguard Newspaper, the actress said that it is important to get down with the opposite gender before marriage in order to know how active and fertile the person is.
“It’s not like you’re trying to get pregnant before wedding, what I’m just trying to say is, you have to know how healthy a person is before you can say you want to go into marriage. Marriage is not something you pop in and pop out just like that, so you have to know your partner very well, sexually and otherwise before you jump into it,” she said.
She further described some women who act as if sex is evil as pretenders, adding that it is enjoyed by both parties and no one individual gets the best side.
“Don’t mind them, they are just pretenders. Most people pretend to hate sex when they actually enjoy it than most others,” she noted.

My Dad Advised Me To Smoke Cigarette, Not Marijuana—Yul Edochie
Nollywood star, Yul Edochie, is the last child of Nigerian movie legend, Pete Edochie. Yul has so far represented his father well by walking on his foot prints and carving a niche for himself as a great, most sought after actor.

Do you smoke?
Good question. Well I smoke but sometimes not always. Whenever I want to be alone to think about some things, I chill with cigarettes but I don’t dope or smoke weeds (marijuana); just cigarettes.
Why not weeds also?
No, it will never get to that extent. My father warned me that I can smoke but not weeds or drugs. You do a lot of crazy things under the influence of dope. It makes you act irrational and it kills the brain cells.
But do you also do more of alcohols?
Not much too. I just drink but I don’t drink to get drunk. May be a little bit tipsy, but never drunk.
Yul, whose full names are Chukwubuike Daniel Edochie was named 'Yul' by his father after an American actor. He also recalled how his growing up days was like with a famous father, Pete Edochie.
"Growing up was really good with him as a father. He is extremely very strict, but I thank God that He gave me a father like that. I couldn’t have wished for a better father. He is a strict Catholic, so a lot of things I know today I learnt because of my background. Like I told you, I would rather die than dope. Kill me but I won’t dope and that’s how my father is.
“My father made us to understand that it is better to have a good name. Good name will get you riches and everything you need. That’s the kind of family I was raised in and my mum too is very strict. There wasn’t much money then to throw around but we grew up loving God and one another," he said.

Why I Can't Do Without Nadia Buari - Jim Iyke
Nollywood actor Jim Iyke recently had an interesting interview where he talked about his undying love for his sweetheart, Nadia Buari, and his addiction to sunglasses and Sneakers.
Taking about the Ghanaian actress who has stolen his heart long time ago, he said, 'Nadia is a solid, down-to-earth woman. I’m a man that translates variables in ways many people find incomprehensible. We have embraced who we are and learnt to create our own world and expectations. We have ups and downs like every other couple.
“We have our strength and weakness as well. At the end of the day, rumours of break ups and make-ups ought to abound. It really doesn’t matter. A relationship is a continuous work. Those that give up were perhaps not committed enough.
Those that go in for the long haul suck up and square up to the variables life throws at them. The people that judge harshly are obviously the ones that live far from their desired lives. We just live the best way we know how and leave the rest to the author and finisher of all things.”
Jim also talked about his fashion sense and his love for sunglasses. “I have about 125 pairs of sunglasses. I think I own about 200 pairs of shoes and sneakers and it is not something to brag about. I like shoes and I collect them.
I get shoes that are much branded and are limited edition. For, me it is not just about making a fashion statement anymore, it is art."
Its indisputable that the Anambra state born actor is a fashion icon in the Nigerian
entertainment industry, he reveals his best designers and outfits
“I am not brand crazy. The designer labels cost a lot of money but there is a healthy competition; which is why I find the fashion market very interesting. I have been to factories that make goods for Gucci.
These are people working on a smaller scale and these are the ones I hire to make my clothes and they give me what I want. However, I always buy what I know I would look good in.
On why he rarely acts Nollywood Movies
“When you arrive at the pinnacle of a career pursuit where else do you go? I surmounted that apex long in my prime. I was the guy that made 38 films in a year! I had created the work-machine image and inevitably also made myself socially redundant.
I couldn't glean at the moment of my decision till late what else that world had for me. It was a vicious circle of constant, monotonous engagement.
“Nothing was challenging anymore. It (Nollywood) was too easy, too perpetual, having travelled same circles and faced same obstacles. I also earned same bracket, produced and invested in the same suffocating projects.
The secret of the constantly progressive individual is the ability to discern when to shift focus and reinvent even if it’s temporarily. I took all I had, the vast contacts I had gathered, and moved into the world of business and facilitation.”

I Was A Good Smoker and Wore Fake Eyelashes - Clarion Chwukura
Nollywood actress, Clarion Chukwura says she will never take plastic surgery as an option. It is a trend that many celebrities who feel they are aging and still want to look a certain way, take plastic surgery as an option just to keep on looking trendy.

In her words “I know what my mother looked like at 60, so I know exactly what I am going to look like at 60 and I can certainly live with that. But seriously, Caucasian women might need plastic surgery because their skin tends to sag prematurely but I think that African women, black women don’t really have that problem. Even with all the beauty products and cosmetics in the market, I think black women genetically have really good skin” she said
She also confessed that she used to be a good smoker when she was younger, but gradually she stopped.
Finally Jim Iyke Joins Politics Too
Popular Nollywood bad boy, Jim Iyke has joined other entertainers who have gone into politics. But unlike his other colleagues, he isn’t contesting for any political post.
Iyke is now a member of newly registered Young Democratic Party as its Director General in the Diaspora explained that the vision of the party is to empower and promote Nigerian youths within and outside the shore of the country.
In a recent interview, he explains why he joined the train, “we just want to say enough is enough. It is time power and our policies shift hands to fresher minds, to stronger fortes, to people that are ready to move with the momentum of time, tide and changes. But it cannot be conceivable if you are saddled in that position for over two decades?
How can you grow? How can you go with the tide of time? Biologically too, time will catch up with you because you are growing old in that position.
Look at advanced countries of the world, and take a close look at people that have moved forward, these are people who have put things in place so that changes will be constant. Refreshment of minds, ideas, psychology, idiosyncrasies will be constant except for Nigeria.
The same circle of people that governed us 20 years ago are the same people who are still ruling us, what are they still doing there? So many of them are in their 80s, grandfathers by all rights! Are they not tired? Suffering and smiling has become our motto, our slogan.
There are black men of strong background and strong voice abroad. We have them everywhere. There is a rippling effect, that whatsoever resonates here touches the whole world. This is the strongest economy, the most populous black nation in the world. You cannot say that what we are doing concerns Nigerians alone. It concerns
Africa, in the weight of what we are doing, we are carrying everybody along.
We are not saying that this is a revolution or we are here to manipulate anybody, no. It is an open and closed book. This change may not happen in this era but it is a right step in the right direction at least there is a voice which hitherto was none existence. There is a platform where you can air your grievances. It is a truthful and open platform.”
Jim Iyke has been romantically linked with beautiful Ghanaian actress, but their off and on relationship is yet to lead them to the altar.

The truth is I have always been fair. I’ve never bleached.
I don’t know why people think otherwise. Google my childhood pictures and see for yourself. Ladies please be comfortable in your skin. God did not create a mistake in you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Don’t settle for bleaching cream. It will damage your skin eventually. Be confident, bold and rock that beautiful skin God has given to you. Black, white or tan.”
Recounting how the current state of the nation inspired her recently released track, ‘Jesu n’Abba’ she said “Jesu n’Abba means ‘Jesus my Father, it is dawn, please protect me in your mercies today/tonight’.
“The security situation in Nigeria and the world inspired the song. It got to a point where mothers would go to bed without an idea where their sons/daughters were and reports like this made my heart ache terribly. And when your heart aches and you go on twitter to express how you feel but still see breaking news of abduction, killing, etc somewhere in the world, you realize that there’s a lot to be grateful to God for and your intercession should go beyond 140 characters or less. Stop tweeting and start talking to The One who has supreme control of the events of the world.
“The song is a heartfelt request to God for divine protection”.
